A New Cause for the Right Wing: Advocating for Underpaid Doctors

Preventative medicine comes second in this country so that Big Pharma can make money “treating” illnesses while the doctors that dole out these new wonder drugs drive around in Mercedes Benz automobiles. At the same time, health insurance companies can charge as high as they want and refuse treatment to whomever they choose due to “prior conditions” or a flat out inability to pay the disgusting co-pays for treatment of terminal or chronic illnesses. And Ann Coulter believes that the problem with health care is that doctors aren’t paid enough.

So the Guy’s a Dick…

But, despite the anti-Ahmedinejad sentiment by the students and the inherent American paranoia regarding any country other than the US having weapons to defend itself, the man participated in an open discourse regarding his country, his beliefs and his values. That, to me, says a lot about the man, especially after being insulted by the man that invited him to the University in the first place.

The Mac Shall Inherit the Earth

It’s funny. I keep hearing these arguments by windows users that Mac can’t be upgraded. I’m reading them off of my G3, a ten year old machine I put a new hard drive in. Granted, I can only run up to OSX 4.0, (latest version is 4.9 with version 5 to be released in Octobre if I heard correctly), but the fact that this little puppy was built TEN YEARS ago and was meant to run OS9, I must say, it does ONE HELLUVA JOB!!!!

America Will Not be Satisfied

America will not be satisfied:

There are those who are asking the devotees of civil rights, “When will you be satisfied?” We can never be satisfied as long as the Negro is the victim of the unspeakable horrors of police brutality. We can never be satisfied as long as our bodies, heavy with the fatigue of travel, cannot gain lodging in the motels of the highways and the hotels of the cities. We cannot be satisfied as long as the negro’s basic mobility is from a smaller ghetto to a larger one. We can never be satisfied as long as our children are stripped of their self-hood and robbed of their dignity by a sign stating: “For Whites Only.” We cannot be satisfied as long as a Negro in Mississippi cannot vote and a Negro in New York believes he has nothing for which to vote. No, no, we are not satisfied, and we will not be satisfied until “justice rolls down like waters, and righteousness like a mighty stream.”

Craig defended by the….whoa….ACLU!

What do you think Republicans would say if a Democrat were caught engaging in extra-marital sexual activities that questioned the integrity of the person? Hmm. Probably bring the articles of impeachment against him.

You would think the progressive party would lash out in the same way if a Republican were caught deviating from the norm of sexual behavior. Especially if that very person in question had done nothing but deride and condemn members of the progressive party, especially organizations as -lets say- the ACLU.

How Wrong Were They?

So there are a lot of funny anecdotal books out in the humor section in Borders that have titles like “Stupidest Things Ever Said.” Many times you find that these quotes are merely premature ramblings by people who aren’t very far-sighted when it comes to the future. One such example would be August Lumiere telling someone his invention (a device for showing moving pictures) would never have a market. Another is Bill Gates saying that 56 megs of ram would be all anyone would ever need on a computer.

Who remembers what happened eleven years ago today? Anyone? I’ll give you a hint: Someone died.

The Paper Actually Prints this Crap?

First off: Anyone from San Francisco, please feel free to comment and/or bash the subjects of this blog entry. I just spent a weekend in your lovely city and I can’t wait to go back. This James Martino guy is a joke.

And now, the entry:

Thumbing through the editorials of The Mountain Democrat, a paper so red-winged-oops, I mean right-winged (red winged would be a person that performs cunnilingus while a woman is on her period) that the damn thing nearly bleeds whenever another crook-er, I mean, Republican gets charged with lying, cheating or stealing.

The Birth of a Nation

How does a social science student completely ignore the social implications of a film and watch it objectively? I suppose my challenge is to find out. You see, for Film History class I am required to watch a 1915 film called “The Birth of a Nation” by a guy named DW Griffith. The man was a disgusting racist pig and the movie is credited for reviving the Ku Klux Klan in America to the tune of 500,000 new members following it’s release. Unfortunately, it is also credited with bringing film-making into the mainstream of American culture and utilizing the major modern techniques of film-making still present today, such as camera angles, parallel edit, fade and dissolve, etc. And so herein lies my dilemma. My teacher has described this film as “the most racist film in the history of film-making.” How do I remain objective to that?
