Why are Conservatives so Fucking Stupid?

Conservatives have spouted off that letting people by health insurance across state lines would increase competition among the insurance companies and would lower cost. They have no idea what they are talking about, as usual, and have completely made asses out of themselves.

Each state decides it’s own regulation of the health insurance markets. In order to get them all the same across the board so that they could sell it in different states, it would take a large gov’t organization and a lot more regulation. Plus, it would take away the right of individual states to regulate a market in their state. Why are conservatives so dumb?

This is only one of their stupid, asinine ideas about health care. My own Representative, Tom McClintock in Ca, said the same thing at a town hall meeting this last fall. This man told a Rheumatoid Arthritis patient that she shouldn’t be denied health care for her pre-existing condition (ok, good), but his solution wasn’t to end the practice of denial by these insurance companies (what?!?!?!) but to allow her to buy into an insurance plan that doesn’t cover Rheumatoid Arthritis, thus allowing her to get emergency coverage and pay for any treatment she might need on her own (WHAT??!!?! We just treat our illness on our own? What the fuck is the point of having Insurance at all, then, you fucking nutbag?!?!?!)

Are Conservatives getting dumber or do they just think they can pass this shit off to an increasingly uneducated base? I think it’s a mixture of both. Conservatives pull their children out of school all the time citing liberal and gay bias by teachers. Oh, and that science stuff they are teaching, who needs that?

My party in Congress looks like it’s falling apart. The President is taking blame for giving them too much leeway and not being more firm in his leadership. But when the base is pissed off, at least it’s because we are informed of their flaws and missteps. It’s because the base pays attention, uses critical thinking, and draws educated conclusions.

So why are Conservatives so Fucking Stupid? Because their is one born every minute, and organizing those idiots with populist anger based on little or no evidence and feeding them ideas that would never work just to counter the ones that would work for the sake of winning elections and staying in power is the MO of their leaders. It’s sad, but in a way, they deserve to be led like sheep. They ask for it.

Their Plan is Coming to Fruition.

It’s a sad day when oil tycoons have enough politicians in their pockets so that Congress can’t pass a bill that supports alternative energy and that holds Exxon Mobil responsible for the suffering of the average American in light of the company’s record profits.

I saw this happening, really. I knew as soon as I read this article on June 11th. The Senate killed two bills that would have held the oil companies accountable and would have created incentives for growing the alternative energy market. But, you see, what the Industry and the Bush administration want is not independence from oil,but independence from foreign oil. These are completely different concepts. Independence from foreign oil includes dependence on destructive oil drilling practices that will hurt precious eco systems that will take hundreds of years to repair. They still want to be able to vacuum up hard-working Americans’ dollars, but they want to do it in a way that is beneficial to them, regardless of the effects on our natural habitats and our oceans, and despite the fact that it is merely a band-aid solution.

Their strategy is easy to see, and practically unstoppable in the wake of the last eight years of de-regulation and the absence of corporate accountability. They have forced the issue by hurting the constituents in such a way that there is no choice but to make a major change. You see, if they can stall long enough and keep just enough Senators from passing a bill that would change the energy market completely, (in fact, only nine Senators were needed in one case) there is no choice but to open the discussion of drilling in environmentally sensitive areas.

The Republicans are now proposing their own solution. It is no real change in the energy market or in US consumption, which are the real issues behind the rising gas prices, just another way for the oil companies to make a quick dollar. I believe they are forcing the issue because they know that the Republicans are losing ground on Capital Hill and will lose ground in the White House in just five and a half months. Even so, with a Democrat in office, I’m afraid it will be too late. The American public will be attached ever longer to their intravenous addiction to gasoline.

How Does Personal Responsibility Factor?

I met a man last night with M.S., a disease that eats away at a person’s nerves until they are completely incapacitated and die. He used to be a mechanic. He will never be able to do that again. He trains companion dogs now for people with worse disabilities than his.

The Anger of a Young American

I was pissed at a friend for still trying to justify the Iraq war and for not caring that we’ve finally hit the 4,000 dead soldier mark for a war we shouldn’t be fighting, so I wrote the following on my DeviantArt page. I think it’s a bit much, but people don’t understand how hard it is to live in an America that is unrecognizable from America that taught the ideals of equality, peace, humanity and justice.

Thoughts on Prince Harry and CPAC 08

Some irresponsible reporter leaked Prince Harry’s front-line deployment to the world, putting him and his fellows at greater risk of attack on the front. That just pisses me off! All the guy wants to do is be a normal soldier and people keep fucking it up for him.

What’s Going On?

What’s going on here? Pipes exploding, bridges collapsing and miners trapped 1500 feet below the earth’s surface. Behind each disaster has been the haunting chill that these could have been prevented had we improved our infrastructure. Behind the Minnesota bridge was a Governor hell bent on getting re-elected on a low-tax ticket. With the middle class being raped by the tax system, of course he was elected, but the voters didn’t know what it would cost them.

The problem isn’t going to be solved by raising taxes on the median income, like Bush has been doing the last seven years. Instead, taxes should be raised on the insane millionaires making more than I would make in a lifetime at my current rate. Does it make sense that millionaires pay less taxes than a person making $8 per hour? And then our infrastructure fails and we see our roads and bridges fall victim to the “rob from the poor, give to the rich” scheme that the neocons have been playing for years.

How do these people stay in power? Well, for one they run on a family values ticket, of all things. They spout American family values and Christian principles until they are blue in the face while at the same time destroying the middle class, ruining the country, making immense amounts of money and leading a war that continues to kill our soldiers. The ones that aren’t killed get rammed up the ass again as the neocons cut VA benefits and veto bills that would improve their health care after they return from fighting.

Another way they have stayed at the top is through the clever use of fear. You get enough gun toting red necks afraid of a dark-skinned minority and you can pretty much do anything. Instead of demanding that our military get out of Iraq and hunt for terrorists, the voters have fallen for the theory that leaving Iraq would bring the war to the US. Instead of realizing that our president ignored intelligence regarding 9/11, they vote for the people that say they will keep them safe with wire-tappings and death of Habaeus Corpus.

Instead of spending money on education, health-care for children, and our roads that are collapsing before our eyes, the neocons are focusing the attention on a war we never should have fought in a country we have thrown into chaos.

These people should be charged. They are not running the country, they are running the show. That is not how a government should treat it’s people. After all, it is only the people that can come into an agreement to be governed. Thom Paine had that right. So in the race for the 2008 election, you can bet that I will be writing my damnedest to get the word out to the people that enough is enough. Whether registered Republican or Democrat, things need to change. These neocons are not representing the will of the country, which is more and more progressive. Nor are they representing the core values of the everyday Republicans. America can unite against this scourge.

8.6.07

Asleep or on vacation? On my blogroll, check out Semidi and his post about a solemn anniversary and get to know Blue Gal, a recent addition to my Google Reader. I just can’t get enough of the liberal media, goddamnit.

In other news, I have a new kitten. His name is officially Nigel. It was going to be Ivan, or Delano, but he just looks like a Nigel. He loves to claw up and down my leg while I’m checking my e-mail until he passes out on my bed. I have had him for twenty-four hours now and hey, I could get used to this! He’s grey with tabby stripes and he is very sociable. I think this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Update: I had to remove Blue Gal from my reader.  Although her post on the aug 6, 2001 memo regarding a possible attack by terrorists was a good one, she just isn’t addressing the issues I would like to see.  God bless her, but she’s just not involved enough.
